Favorite Ice Cream Shops in the DMV

My Favorite 3 Ice cream places in DC & NoVa!

Ice cream is a constant favorite in my household from a mid-day treat, an after-dinner sweet, or a refreshing indulgence on a hot day – there is always time for ice cream. Over the years, I have found that the DC area is chock-full of stores specializing in various icy delights, from traditional ice cream to frozen custard to gelato and so much more! While many may know and adore the franchises that have become recognizable names in the area, I have found some wonderful and unique parlors that are worth a trip for your next dessert outing.

Dairy Godmother – Known for its frozen custard and homey flavors, this Alexandria shop is a definite favorite for unique flavors! From ice cream sandwiches to sundaes, Dairy Godmother has got it all! Keep an eye out for their flavor forecast to find out the flavor of the day – a favorite is the Klondike Heath bar flavor, a perfect combo of vanilla, chocolate, and crunchy goodness. And you sure can’t go wrong with a classic ice cream sandwich; it is a perfect accompaniment as you stroll along Del Ray and check out the neighborhood!

Jake’s Ice Cream – Jake’s is the place to visit in Falls Church for artisanal small-batch ice cream. They have house-made waffle cones, sundaes, shakes, floats, and delicious confections — we love their cake pops and hot cocoa bombs! Many of their staff are differently abled adults who assist the owners in creating new ice cream flavors and treats.

The Creamery at Union Market – This Union Market staple is a dairy shop offering homemade ice cream using grass-fed milk. The family-owned shop also sells other fresh dairy products like cheese and more! Grab a treat while you visit all that Union Market has to offer.
